Spring 2010 News

Letter From The President:
Many of you know we have been working very hard to get that lower 3 acre field game ready. We have graded, sowed, and re-sowed. There is some grass there but it is not nearly ready to play on. What it needs now is water. Do you know about irrigation systems? Can you put in a well? We want to talk to you. Please call us at the park, 828.478.5711 or contact us through our website (new and improved!) at Sfoptimist.com. If you are able to help it would be greatly appreciated! The park really needs that field ready by Fall. We hope to hear from YOU soon.
Sincerely, Tanya

Just a note...:
I'm sure most of you feel as I do, overworked, overwhelmed, and overextended. We all have to make do with less and still get everything done. It probably doesn't help that the Ooptimist Club is always begging for help in the concession stand. I realize the concession stand can sometimes seem insignificant, unimportant, and a poor use of time, to some, but the reality is the concession stand keeps this park rolling everyday! I thought I'd take this opportunity to explain why having the concession stand is critical to keeping the Optimist club open. Did you know that on game days we pay out an average of $336 in umpire fees? Did you know it costs an average of $900 a month to have the fields lit up at night, so our children don't have to play in the dark?
Having a concession stand open is income for this park and it's what keeps this park open and all our kids safe and playing fair games. 2-3 hour time slots and a committment of your time is crtical to keeping the concession stand open!
Please take a moment, when the sign up sheet comes around, to support your park by contributing your time to help. It's a great fun way to meet your neighbors and other new people and it feels great to know your help has made a real difference in so many lives.

See you at the park!
Sincerely,
Tanya Eades
