After spending many years working as a General Contractor and Real Estate Broker, I fully retired in 2019. My wife, who works in a corporate office, and I decided that I would stay home and proudly take on the role of “Mr. Mom.”
Our son began playing soccer at SFO in 2018, and I quickly became involved by helping coach his team. When I took him to his middle school soccer tryouts at Mill Creek Middle School, I was asked to serve as an assistant coach. Shortly thereafter, I took over the soccer program and led it for three years.
During my time at Mill Creek, my wife and I helped raise over $14,000 to purchase the school’s first-ever soccer scoreboard, along with new uniforms for both the boys’ and girls’ teams. Through additional donations and the support of dedicated volunteers, we secured turf and supplies to transform an unused tennis court into a futsal court. With the approval of the Catawba County School Board, that vision became a reality, creating a valuable new training space for students.
Youth sports are extremely important to me. Having a place like SFO Park is vital to the development of the youth in our community. In the unincorporated areas of the county, there are no publicly provided facilities for youth sports. Programs like SFO are often the only opportunity our children have to learn teamwork, discipline, leadership, and perseverance lessons that positively impact them throughout their academic careers and beyond within the Catawba County school system.
Investing in youth sports is investing in our children’s future, and I remain deeply committed to ensuring these opportunities continue to grow and thrive in our community..
