Cheer

Cheer is for girls in these four age levels based on the age as of 8/31 of the current year.

  • Flag: ages 4 to 6
  • Pee-Wee: ages 7 and 8
  • Junior Varsity: ages 9 and 10
  • Varsity: ages 11 and 12

Age groups may shift by one year only to fill roster spots and allow for appropriate team size. Requests for a different age group will only be considered by the same criteria. If you also have a son playing football we cannot guarantee they will be cheering for that specific team. While we have a little flexibility with team assignment we will not put our cheer teams at a disadvantage to accommodate schedules.

Uniform includes cheer top, skirt, briefs, pink socks for October, two bows (one uniform color and one pink for October), and a cheer sweatshirt.  The uniform does NOT include low cut white socks for September and November games or white cheer shoes/white tennis shoes.

Pom poms provided by organization for use at practices and games.

Important 2026 Dates

Our first practice is tentatively, Saturday August 1st at Sherrills Ford Optimist Park. Practices will be held 2-3 times weekly on a combination of Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and/or Saturday until games start. Once games begin, practices will be 2-3 times weekly on Monday, Tuesday, and/or Thursday. Practice schedules will be set once coaches are finalized. If you have conflicts on any of these days please reach out to the cheerleading director prior to registering. Cheer is just like any other team sport and expect everyone to be at all practices.

We may provide a cheer camp this summer. Date to be determined.

Please check your email, the SFO website, and facebook page for updates and announcements.

Season Information

Game season for peewee, JV, and varsity typically start the weekend after Labor Day and finish the second or third weekend of November. Most games are on Saturdays at local high school stadiums-times vary from morning to late afternoon. There are occasional games on Tuesday evenings.

Game season for flag football typically starts in September and ends in early to mid November. In the past these games are played on weeknights-usually Tuesday and/or Thursday evenings at 6 and 7 pm. This is subject to change based on the decision of the football program.
