My name is Demetrius Green, and I am honored to be Director of the Sherrills Ford Optimist Football and Adult Softball ProgramsSome of you may already know me from around the community. My wife, Heather Green, and I relocated to the Sherrills Ford area in 2023 from the Gastonia region, and we are proud parents of four children who have been heavily involved in SFO athletics since our arrival. Being part of this community—both on and off the field—has been incredibly meaningful to our family. It was an easy decision to call Sherrills Ford home.I’m originally from Georgia and football has been a constant part of my life. I played throughout my youth and college career, competing at Lenoir-Rhyne University, and began coaching shortly after graduating in 2014. I spent four years coaching at the high school level across Gaston County before making the intentional decision to step into youth football when my oldest sons began playing.Since 2019, coaching has become far more than teaching the game. My passion is rooted in mentoring young men, developing leadership, character, discipline, and a deep respect for teamwork and community. Football is a competitive sport that requires heart, commitment to learning, and accountability—but it also creates lifelong friendships, strong bonds, and a shared sense of purpose. Every season leaves me eager for the next opportunity to grow, learn, and lead.Over the past three years, I’ve had the privilege of assisting at both the JV and Varsity levels, and I am excited to step into this new chapter with SFO. The upcoming season will bring change—change that demands dedication, discipline, and a collective commitment to improving not only performance on the field, but the character and culture of the athletes we serve.Beyond football, our family is deeply invested in optimist athletics. Our children participate in sports year round- and my wife and I—along with several dedicated community members—were able to spearhead the Adult Softball Program that launched Summer 2025.We believe strongly in creating opportunities for all ages to stay connected, active, and engaged through sports.I am truly looking forward to the season ahead and to building strong relationships with athletes, families, coaches, and supporters as we work together to develop confident, disciplined, and community-minded young athletes through the Sherrills Ford community!Feel free to wave me down, say hey, or chat all things sports around town!
